Herman Carr (cq), 77, holds a photo of himself (far right in photo) on a U.S. Army team on which he was one of two black players. Carr is a retired postal supervisor who lives in Park Hill grew up in Enid, Okla. and played pick-up basketball with a young Don Haskins. Carr went to an all-black high school and Haskins went to an all-white high school and the two would lose track of each other after high school but their time together had an impact on Haskins. Haskins went on to win a National Championship at Texas Western with a team composed of all black players. Texas Western beat the University of Kentucky and their famously prejudiced coach Adolf Rupp in the title game. Carr was supposed to be included in the soon-to-open movie about the event entitled "Glory Road". (MARC PISCOTTY/ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS) CQ Herman Carr
