(DENVER, CO., June 25, 2004) A certificate according to the U.S. Golf Register, the official clearinghouse of holes-in-one, the odds of acing a hole are one in 33,000. But what would the odds be on a 517-yard hole. According to the Golf Register, the longest ace ever registered was by Michael J. Crean of Denver on a 517-yard dogleg on July 4, 2002, at Green Valley Ranch Golf Club. A guy in Omaha had the previous long ace of 447 yards, but he became bitter after people questioned whether he could actually have scored a hole in one on such a long hole; he no longer will talk about it. Crean, though, is talking, at The Ranch Country Club, the golf course where he lives. (Photo by AHMAD TERRY/ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS)
