Teller County Sheriff deputy Tim Woodruff, CQ, fires his rifle above the head of a bear to scare it away from U.S. 24 at mile marker 275 in Teller County, Colo. on Saturday August 5, 2006. Woodruff was called to the seen where a bear had taken an elk, road kill, from U.S. 24 and dragged it through a fence and up an embankment, but the commotion was causing a traffic hazard so the deputy pulled the elk out of the publics view so the bear could finish dinner and normal traffic could resume.
