Historic Denver, Inc. a privately funded non-profit preservation group along- with the Auraria Higher Education Center (AHEC), an agency of the State of Colorado, propose to develop a landscape design and implementation study for the AHEC campus, a 169-acre site under development as a major urban college campus immediately adjacent to downtown Denver The AHEC will serve three publicly - supported educational institutions: Community Colleg of Denver, Metropolitan State College, and the University of Colorado at Denver." The campus will provide an architectural link between Denver's past and future. It is horde ed on the East by historic Cherry Creek and is the site of the city's origin. The site includes three churches, one brewery and a block of 19th century homes, all scheduled fo adaptive use- and listed on. the National Registers .The landscape options for historic areas, the banks of the creek, the public and recreational open spaces would be examined under the direction of Jacques C. Brownson, Director of Planning and Development for AHEC The proposed project seeks to coordinate and harmonize the architectural relationships between the landmarks and the emerging campus through landscape planning. The project will be executed by the AHEC staff with the assistance of noteworthy professional landsc« architects. A plan will be published and distributed. This application represents an innovative collaboration between a privately funded non-profit preservation group, Historic Denver, Inc., and a state agency. Volunteers and professionals will achieve new identification for Denver's birthplace. No funds exist for this type of study. The timing 6f this grant, --if awarded, provides Denver and the nation with a major campus- historic park by 1976. V.
