Summary
Major General Willis D. Crittenberger and other high ranking officers watch the 5th Army, 1554th Engineering Heavy Ponton Battalion complete the first ponton bridge (an M-2 Treadway pontoon bridge) built across the Po River at San Benedetto Po (Mantova Province), Italy. Soldiers sit in a jeep on the bridge, others walk on the bridge and some use ropes to maneuver a rubber ponton into place.
