A studio portrait (standing) of Mautchick, a young Native American chief (Muache Ute), a delegate to Washington, D.C. in 1873. He has martin fur wrapped braids, metal hoop earrings, a short beaded hair pipe breastplate, a woven and beaded tunic with fringed cuffs over a striped broadcloth shirt. He wears rings and his leather leggings are trimmed on the sides with bead panels. He wears a bordered loin cloth. His beaded hide moccasins have a medallion design and beads along the edges. A brocade drape is in the background.
