Boys, girls, young men and women stand, sit or play in front of the Ninth Street School, located between Poplar and Hemlock streets, in Leadville (Lake County), Colorado. The two story brick building has an arched door with voussoirs and a keystone. The building has a central section topped with pediment and a wooden bell tower. Rusticated stone quoins decorate the corners of the building and the sides of the central section of the building. The windows have decorated stone lintels. The building has a cornice and brackets and two chimneys. Writing carved into the stone lintel above the central widows reads: "Central Dist. 2 School" "1880."
