VOL. IV, NO. 11
NOVEMBER 1968
2201 DEXTER ST.
DENVER COLORADO
"Life is action and passion: I think it is required
of a man that he should share the action and passion
of his time at peril of being judged not to have lived."
- Oliver Wendell Holmes -
PHAC SCHOOLS SUB-COMMITTEE
RESOLUTION TO BE PRESENTED
TO THE BOARD OP EDUCATION
ON NOVEMBER 12, 1968.
WHEREAS, the Park Hill Action Committee supports the principle that
quality-integrated education is the
best education for assuring that
our children can contribute to development of a better world and,
WHEREAS, the Denver Board of Education, through modification and
adoption of the Noel resolution,
has instructed the Superintendent
of Schools to prepare a comprehenr-
sive plan for integration of Denver public schools and for accomplishment of certain other related
objectives and,
WHEREAS, such a plan has.been offered by the Superintendent, which
plan, does incorporate certain innovations which may have educational value, but which, in our
view, does not satisfactorily comply with the Noel resolution,
BF IT RESOLVED that Park Hill Action Committee is willing to work
with the Superintendent of Schools
and his staff to develop such modification of his plan as is necessary, if modification can be accomplished, to bring the plan into
full compliance with the Noel resolution.
BE IT ALSO .RESOLVED that Park Hill
Action Committee considers the following to be the minimum modification which would, in our judgment,
meet the criteria established by
the Noel resolution as amended by
the Board of Education before
adoption:
1. Realignment of the Ble-
mentary, Junior High and Senior
High School complex boundaries
and intermixing of scnool populations within those boundaries
so that each school contains in
the day-to-day educational environment an ethnic mixture of students closely approximating the
ethnic ratio in the city.
2. Where necessary, provision of transportation to assure
continued integration of each
complex until such time as changing residential patterns and other
social factors make such transportation unnecessary.
3. Provision for relief of
Smiley, Cole and Gove Junior High
schools as the item of first priority in the plan.
