CHUN Board Meeting
June 22, 1978
1200 Williams St.
The meeting was called to order by President Dan Paulien at 7:30 p.m.
Board members present were Gordon Appel, Lynne Arena, Micki Barnes,
John Bermingham, Elizabeth Crawford, Michael Henry, Jim Hil}., John
Hitch, Sarah Hite, Marcia Hughes, Paul Mahoney, Rosie Mahoney, John
Ozello, Bill Pace, Eric Peterson, Tom Potter, Pern Robertson, Luella
Sanders, Michael Sanders, Janet Seymour, JoAnn Soker, Charles Trainer,
Guests were Denis Pimple, Larry Ramsdell, Jock McNulty, Norma Oldham,
Tom G-leason, Sally Barton, Mark Thomas, Ted G-leickman, Cecil Dressel.
The agenda was adopted. Dan said that Phil Kenshaw had resigned;
Sarah Hite moved that Jock McNulty be elected to the CHUN Board.
The motion was seconded and carried. Jock will serve as a liason
with the People-*s Pair Committee.
Paul Mahoney, Vice President for Membership Meetings, announced the
General Meeting scheduled for July 20 at 7:30Tat the Botanic Gardens.
Three items will be on the agenda: Operation WhistleStop, Interneigh-
borhood Cooperation - Should CHUN join?, and R.T.D. route changes.
In addition, Dan Paulien will explain CHUN's committee structure and
solicit committee members.
Marcia Hughes, Vice President for Membership said she will be working
on a membership campaign.
Treasurer's Report: Membership dues during month - $ 181.00
Balance on hand - $1465.42
Dan presented a proposed CHUN budget. Expenses of staff and office
for year May 25, 1978 - May 31, 1979 total $2925; On-going Activities
total $2575 for total anticipated expenses of $5500. Income includes
cash on hand, projected membership dues, house tour, and People's
Fair grant application for a total of $5500. Gordon Appel moved
that the budget be approved in concept and reviewed at each Board
meeting with an objective of carry forward a minimum balance next
year of $700. The motion was seconded and passed. It was suggested
that we look at the membership dues structure.
It was moved, seconded and passed that CHUN officers be authorized
to hire part-time office help. A job description is needed. It
will include performing routine office work, mailings to board members, hopefully time to help with committee work, in addition to
providing a contact point for CHUN members and the community. Applications should close mid-July.
Marcia Hughes moved that CHUN always hire from inside its boundaries.
The motion was seconded and passed.
It was moved, seconded and passed that Dan be authorized to lease
office space at the Capitol Hill Community Center, 1200 Williams,
and the officers authorized to purchase needed furniture and equipment within the proposed CHUN budget. Rental cost is $6.00 per
square foot. It is anticipated that CHUN share a room with another
organization. It was also moved, seconded and passed that Dan be
authorized within the $600 proposed budget toyget a recording and
