MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE
CAPITOL HILL UNITED NEIGHBORHOODS
OCTOBER 25, 1973
The meeting was called to order at 7:50 P.M. by President Mike Henry.
Absent were Rhonda Knap, Jeanne Busacca, and Dale and Peggy Hart. The
minutes were approved. The Treasurer reported a current balance of
$334.63, up from $323.63 of last month.
Michael Lee, a representative of the Denver Junior Chamber of Commerce
and^iA*^#f£d^ representative of the League of Women Voters, made a
presentation on the Water Bond Election to be held on November 6, 1973.
Questions and discussions followed the presentation.
David Knauber moved that David Fletcher be authorized to set up a
forum on Denver's annexation policy. The forum will include speakers
from City Council, particularly Councilman k*ck > and state legislators,
particularly Representative Carol Tempest. The forum will be given city-
wide publicity and will be held within the next six weeks. The motion was
seconded and discussion followed. The motion passed.
It was decided that the next board meeting would be held on Thursday,
November 29, 1973 at 7:30 P.M.
President Mike Henry noted that Jim Barfe^iahad volunteered to form a
committee with President Henry to publicize the Sign Code violators. Jim
James moved that Mike Henry and Jim Banji^take a tour of Capitol Hill to
make a list of those persons violating the Sign Code, and send a letter to
such violators asking that they discontinue violating the Code in the
interest of aesthetics, power shortages and as an example to law-abiding
citizens. The motion was seconded.; Discussion followed. Jim James
stated that the City Attorney's attitude was that the court decision had
essentially nullified the Sign Code and that only those signs constructed
after the Code were subject to the provisions of the Code. It was pointed
out, however, that pursuant to the findings of President Henry and Mr.
Barjfe^t, pressure might be brought on the City Attorney to appeal the
decision of the court or, in the alternative, pressure might be brought
on the City Council to revise the Code so that it might be broader in
application. The question was called and the motion was passed.
President Henry read a letter from John Kelly, Chairman of the RTD,
thanking CHUN for its help in the RTD election and promising not to abuse
the trust placed &tf the citizens in RTD through that election.
President Henry announced that pursuant to the board's appointing
himself, Peggy Hart and Patty Jackson as the committee to replace Ethel
Lunok, who had resigned from the board, Don Bain was asked and agreed
to serve on the board.
