New Budget
Priority Process
Approach at CHUN
A totally new approach to the
expenditure of CHUNKS funds and
energies would be taken should the
recommendations of an ad hoc committee be adopted by the General
Membership meeting set for August 7«
The approach recommended calls
for an annual priority-setting
process, the results of which would
guide the annual budget as well as
give a more precise sense of direction to CHUN°s many different
thrusts. If the approach is adopted
at the General Membership meeting,
that meeting will also feature a
session on priority-setting to guide
the 1981 budget.
This proposal grew out of
several inter-related concerns
committee members had about the way
CHUN currently operates, such as:
how to relate the People°s Fair
more closely to other CHUN
activities, how to create sufficient
funds to move toward having a full-
time professional staff person,
should the members want that, and
how to allocate scarce funds and
energies.
In the past, the budget for the
People°s Fair and the budget for the
rest of our activities were pretty
much divorced from one another, and
we were making grants to numerous
community groups and agencies without reference to what we felt neighborhood priorities were. Under
the proposed mechanism, CHUN would
set priorities each year and then
allocate dollars accordingly. Thus,
SUCCESS !! !
Mac Rew rd s the Hill
Hard work in the community
interest has just been rewarded by
the Mayor's Advisory Committee.
Patty Jobe, District 10 committee
member, reports that the Community
Development Agency has been
authorized to fund a generous
portion of six Capitol Hill small
projects proposals, including tree
planting projects of Colfax B,
Cheeseman Chums, CHUN Neighborhood
Five (three sub-projects) and the
Heart of the Hill improvement at
9th Avenue and Downing.
More details in the next issue.
House Tour Coming Soon
By the time you receive this
newsletter, the date for this year's
House^Tour will be set. It will
be this fall and we need help so
that it can be a big success as
it usually is. Call Rosie Mahoney,
377-0268 or the CHUN office if
you can help. It's fun!
CHUN members might still make
community grants, or utilize funds
derived from all fund-raising activities to hire more staff, or
decide to work on economic development 9 or whatever members decide
are the key issues that year. The
process would allow changes to be
made in the budget during the year
should some major issue develop
which the organization wishes to
address.
