CAPITOL HILL UNITED NEIGHBORHOODS
MINUTES OF BOARD MEETING - OCTOBER 29, 1975
Bernie opened the meeting.
The Capitol Hill Retreat will be held Nov. 1 & 2.
Bernie reported that John Zapien of Globeville requested CHUN's
support in its struggles with the Denver Planning Office. Bernie
received the authority to speak for CHUN on Globevillefs behalf
by a 7-1 telephone vote of the Executine Committee.
Bernie has attended three meetings of the Capitol Hill business
group. There are currently some thirty businesses involved.
The POWUR Plan will be unveiled tomorrow (10/30) at 7:30 at the
Botanic Gardens.
The CHUN survey is progressing, with one-third of the membership
contacted. There was a suggestion for using the interview
technique.
GUESTS: Janet James of Ananda Marga gave a brief introduction to the
school and its philosophy. Neal Smith of The 1st Unitarian Church
told of their Shared Center Corporation which offers rental space
within the church to neighborhood groups.
TRANSPORTATION: There is to be a public hearing on the Cheesman
barriers on Nov. 19, 7:30, at the Botanic Gardens.
It was resolved that CHUN will not make any public stand on the
barriers until after the public hearing.
It was resolved that CHUN shall reiterate its past stance on the
barriers making it explicit that the group is open to new input.
LAND USE AND ZONING: A letter regarding the Congress Park Plan
was circulated. Mary Snyder said that the Land Use and Zoning
committee was to study the Plan and it has not done so. She
urged that CHUN support a move for a more open process in City
planning.
It was resplved that Bernie shall develop a letter asking for a
statement of City planning policy.
CITY BUDGET: There was lengthy discussion of the methods for
opening up the budget making process.
It was resolved that CHUN support councilpersons in an effort for
the analysis and restructuring of the present budget to more fully
meet social, health, recreational, and, generally, human needs
programs.
