CAPITOL HILL UNITED NEIGHBORHOODS MINUTES OF BOARD MEETING - JULY 24, 1975 The meeting was opened by Bernie Jones Past minutes were circulated for review and were accepted as written, Patti Jackson reported a current bank balance of 1600.00 plus or minus. She further revealed a letter of determination from the IRS regarding OHUNS tax situation. 1. CHUNfs non-profit status was affirmed 2. Certain refunds will be made 3. Members contributions are not tax deductable A representative of the Denver Police Department gave a talk on the Scooter Patrol, Project Escort. The basic concept is the revival of the "beat cop"; designed to meet street erime problems. Federal funds are involved and there are 20 patrolmen to cover six precincts. Question and answer: **""■'Q. Are there any women on the squad? A. No, it was strictly a volunteer program and there were no women volunteers. Q. What is the average response time to a 911 call? A. We handle priority calls first. Our response time has been 30 seconds from time of dispatch. Q. What about crime coverage on Colfax? A. We will not cover*Golfax because of existing coverage by other units. Q. Will the scooters be handling traffic problems? A. No, more into crime. Q. Do you feel the coverage has improved? A. We are very optomistic, 12 officers in cars plus scooters more than doubles capabilities. Q. Do any of the squad members live in the area? A. I believe we have one sargeant. Police are no different than anyone else, they are moving out to. AD HOG OFFICE SPACE COMMITTEE: No report COMMUNICATIONS COMMITTEE: A third member was solicited. Press releases were requested from committee chairmen and others. PEOPLE1S FAIR: The possibility of contracting with Denver Free University was raised. Bernie asked for an ad hoc committee to evaluate John Hand's report and make recommendations. Items of study suggested were: nature of the fair, scope and scale, sponsorship, money making aspects, what should be free. Sarah, Gail, Patti, Chuck volunteered.
