CHUN BOARD OF DELEGATES MEETING, OCTOBER 16, 1981 - MINUTES
ATTENDANCE: Delegates Jo Campbell, Chris Citron-Moore, Mary Cook, Liz Crawford, Pam
Crouch, Dee Dukehart, Mike Henry, Sarah Hite, John Hitch, Marcia Hughes, Dick Johnston, Bernie Jones, Meredith McBurney, Dan Paulien, Mary Pellettier, Larry Ramsdell,
Kethleen Reilly, JoyceThorn, Bernetta Conrey. Staff: Meg Nagel, Paula Kelley, Steve
Valecevic. Others: Gary Jones, Emily Williams, John Bermingham, Don Thompson.
Meeting commenced at 7:30 pm.
OFFICER REPORTS...Mary Cook, VP for Membership, discussed and proposed changes in
the CHUN membership year. Larry Ramsdell moved the recommendation she presented,
that the membership period would run from the date the person joins until one year
later, and accepted Liz Crawford's friendly amendment that it run to the first of
the month following the year anniversary of joining. The motion passed unanimously.
Mary then moved the following dues increases be made: regular membership from $5/year
to $6; household from $8 to $10; small businesses from $15 to $20; and large businesses from $25-100 to $30-100. A friendly amendment from Bernie Jones changed the
last item (large businesses) to $40-100. This too passed unanimously. It was the
general understanding that memberships sent in using the old forms (and old dues)
would be accepted; in addition, both changes are effective immediately/ Another
motion from Mary to authorize the executive committee to fund a direct mail campaign
was tabled after discussion of its costs and benefits...VP for General Meetings Dee
Dukehart reported on the recent general meetings. The decision was made then to
have a "lively party" for the holidays, and a committee established to plan it...
LeRoy Miller, VP for Communications announced a committee meeting as well as plans
to explore newsletter and flyer distribution of CHUN materials at Kings...President
Marcia Hughes announced the INC Cable Conference set for October 24 and reviewed the
work of INC on the issue, which would culminate with a position for CHUN to vote on
in November...Treasurer Liz Crawford noted that expenditures were just about on
target for this time of year, relative to the annual budget.
PEOPLE'S FAIR...Committee Chair Larry Ramsdell reported that the People's Fair
Grants Committee will be following last year's guidelines and had set a December 1
deadline for applications, with awards to be made by January 31. The effort to
recruit a Fair Coordinator will be starting soon, and Larry's motion that the pay
this year be raised $200/month to $1600/month for six months passed without opposition.
VISTA REPORTS...Paula Kelley related that CHARG's application for tax-exempt status
was about to be filed, and that a fundraising committee had been formed to find a
way to pay a staff person after she departs...The work of the CHUN Economic Develop
ment Committee was reported on by Steve Valecevic - a neighborhood credit union and
a neighborhood marketing agency are two ideas being explored. His design work for
street widening along East 13th is also progressing. Marcia expressed her thanks,
as did the rest of the Delegates,to Steve for his year of very fruitful work for
CHUN. Steve's year with CHUN ends in late November.
ANOTHER CHEESMAN HIGH RISE,.AND OTHER ZONING ISSUES...Mike Henry told the group of
a developers' plans to build a 20-22 storey high rise at the SW corner of 13th and
Franklin, entailing demolition of a few existing housing structures and requiring
a rezoning to allow greater density.-. The Urban Renewal project slated for the
near West Side was briefly discussed, expecially as it might require some street
widening through Capitol Hill. Cathy Donohue will be asked to look into the impacts
of this project on our neighborhood...Denver Housing Authority is purchasing land
around Logan and Sherman for "landbanking."
