BOARD OF DELEGATES MEETING, AUGUST 30, 1979
BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT: Lynn Adams, Gordon Appell, Brian Barhaugh,Mel Carter,
Ray Fisher, Patsy Frannea, Ken Freed, Mike Henry, Sharon Hill, Jim Hill,
Joanne Hill, John Hitch, Ted Hoyer, Bernie Jones, Liz Jones, Sally Kurtzman,
Paul Mahoney, Janet Moore-Kirkland, Norma Oldham, Dan Paulien, Leon Sanders,
Joyce Thorn, Charles Trainor.
Others Present: Stan Heller, Jock McNulty, Rosie Mahoney, Sandy Weston,
Eileen Hoffman Gordon Butzv Nancy Rettig, Jo Campbell, Julie Hutchinson,
Caro Russell, Lela Russell
Thenmeeting was called to order by President Dan Paulien at 7:35 pm. A quorum
was present. Upon a motion by Mike Henry, the minutes of the previous Board
meeting were approved unnaimously.
BOARD VACANCIES. Resignations from Board members Rhonda Knop, Rose Kapolczynski,
Gerri Lane, and Kathy Allen were announced. Jo Campbell was elected to fill a
vacancy in Area I upon a motion by Bernie Jones and a unnimous vote. JoAnn Soker
was elected to fill a vacancy in ArcK?*?, after a motion by Mike Henry and a unanimous vote. In both thooo-areag, no neighborhood assembly existed, thus necessitating a Board action to fill vacanc£#«. A vacancy still exists in Area 9, cv^l <z*«L<*r*
Charles Trainor announced that he would be stepping down as Transportation
Committee Chairperson next month.
A person willing to assume the role of Vice-President for Communications has
been found. Julie Hutchinson was elected to that post upon a unanimous vote
on Joyce Thorn's motion.
MEETING PLACES. Dan announced that the Board meetings would be moving around
due to construction going on at the Capitol Hill Community Center. He introduced and thanked Pastor Caro Russell and Ms. Lela Russell of Warren Methodist
Church.
HOUSE TOUR UPDATE. Sharon Hill, co-chairperson of the House Tour Committee, reported on planning activities for the 3rd annual City Lovers1 House Tour, and
introduced several persons who are playing key roles in the work. An added
extra will be the sale of two books on historic aspects of the city, which should
increase CHUN's revenues from the tour. Sharon also noted there would be a
special surprise along the tour!
HOUSING VACANCY SURVEY. Eileen Hoffman of the Metro Denver Urban Coalition was
introduced. She is working with Senior Support Services and the Commision on the
Aging to carry out a vacancy survey of downtown and Capitol Hill area apartment
units, during early October. She asked for help to carry out the work, and she
can be reached at 832-5586.
CAPITOL HILL ARTS. Stan Heller, founder of the Touchstone Theatre in the neighborhood, is trying to start a Capitol Hill Arts Advocacy Council, and wishes
CHUN to be involved in that activity. The Council would reflect the values of
the neighborhood and its artists, and support neighborhood artists. He stressed
the need to celebrate as well as defend the neighborhood. A large number of
those present signed up for his first meeting, set for October 21, at the
Touchstone (1035 E 17th) at 1 pm. Stan can be reached at 831-1299.
ALL-MEMBER MEETING. Vice-President for General Meetings Ted Hoyer explained
the goals behind and the format for the September 27th all-membership meeting,
which should develop goals and objectives for CHUN. Arrangements for increasing
attendance at the meeting were discussed.
